Cornerstone!
"This is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" This a verse in Psalm 118 that celebrates the fact that the one who was rejected has become the capstone. This is a messianic text. When Jesus came He fulfilled this text. He is our capstone or cornerstone. He is the one that is head of the church and foundation of the church. I Corinthians 3:11; Ephesians 1:10; 2:19-22
Remember Peter's response to Jesus when He asked His disciples who they believed He was in Matthew 16? Peter burst out: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!" Jesus blessed him and told him that on this rock He would build His church. I believe the "Rock" spoken of there is Peter's proclamation: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!"
If this is so, then Jesus is our cornerstone and all that we believe and do is founded on Him. Check out 1 Peter 2:4-7:
"As you come to Him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to Him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone,and the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.” Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”
This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it because I know that Jesus, the Messiah, has come. He is our Rock and our Redeemer. He is our Savior, our Hope, and our Friend. He is our reason for living as we strive to please Him with the life He has given us.
Let me conclude with this medley of verses that express my faith in Him.
"Jesus is my Cornerstone, Rock which all others are built on. Even the gates of hell, shall not prevail for no other foundation can be laid then that which is already laid which is Jesus Christ my Cornerstone, Rock which all others are built on..."
